Trócaire appeal for South Sudan

7 09 2014

A message from Trócaire’s Executive Director Éamonn Meehan on the refugee situation at a camp near Juba, South Sudan, in September 2014.

Dear Friend

50,000 children could die from hunger this year in South Sudan unless action is taken. Please take action now.
The outbreak of fighting in South Sudan last December has led to 1.5 million people fleeing their homes. I have met some of these people in the camps where they are now living. Many of them have nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Today, almost 4 million people – nearly the entire population of the Republic of Ireland – have lost everything and are facing the threat of hunger.

David Mukul is one of the four million people who have had to flee their homes in South Sudan. At 70 years of age, he had hoped to begin to take life easier and enjoy time with his family.
“Life is difficult,” David said. “Three weeks ago, I had a home. Now I sleep under a tree. This is not my home.”

By supporting our South Sudan Appeal you can purchase food and shelter for people like David, fleeing violence and now facing hunger. Even a small donation can help us to deliver life-saving support.

 Yours sincerely,
Éamonn Meehan,
Trócaire Executive Director
