Theatre On the Move

1 02 2013

The TOM (Theatre On the Move) Tour is part of Big Telly’s mission to bring live theatre to rural towns and villages across Northern Ireland.

Financed by the Arts Council’s Arts and Older People’s programme, this pilot tour is now in its second week to rural towns and villages within the proposed Causeway Coast super council area.

Over four weeks up to Friday 15th February 2013, four professional actors from Portstewart-based Big Telly Theatre Company, play twenty four different characters, both in Big Telly’s miniature four seater Victorian portable theatre and on the street and in shops, pubs and clubs. They will turn up where you’d least expect them and launch random acts of theatre on the unsuspecting public.

During the TOM tour, Big Telly aims to ‘Target Older Men’ . In our pursuit we have been to three livestock marts – Armoy, Ballymena and Kilrea. By performing for the older men, the idea is to get them into portable theatre to tell a joke, a story, sing a song which we will then put together and show to their local community during the last week. We have met some lovely people along the way and engaged with some isolated, lonely older famers which we hopefully brightened up their day.

The Tour will be at the foyer in the Ballymena Mart tomorrow (Feb 1st) from 10.30am.

Armoy Mart on Monday 4th Feb at 6.00pm, Kilrea Mart on Wednesday 6th Feb at 10.30am.

Please follow the TOM tour schedule daily on twitter @BigTellyNI.

TOM will be in Portglenone on Wed afternoon and Ballycastle all day Thursday.
Devised and directed by Big Telly’s Artistic Director, Zoe Seaton , the actors are as follows:

Christina Nelson, Shelly Atkinson, Kathryn Richardson, Patrick Buchanan and tour manager Alan McCracken.

If you know of any isolated older men who live your rural area,

please tell them to look for Big Telly’s portable theatre and come over and say hello
