SDLP Ballycastle Councillor Dónal Cunningham has welcomed the news that the number of deaths on the roads in the North in 2012 was the lowest since records began.

Councillor Cunningham said

“Stats can be very cold and impersonal especially for all the families who have lost loved ones as a result of road accidents. But as a society we need to keep account of what is happening and work towards a vision of zero fatalities”.

“I urge road users to pay attention, expect the unexpected, slow down, always wear your seatbelt and never ever drink or take drugs and drive,”

“I would also urge drivers not to use their mobile phone to either make calls or read texts and to exercise care and courtesy on the roads”

“By doing so – here and across the island – lives are saved.”
