Assembly needs to ditch Austerity and target capital investment

Austerity

Ahead of the Chancellor’s long-delayed autumn budget statement on Thursday, Ballycastle SDLP Councillor Dónal Cunningham has highlighted the need for the Assembly Executive to act decisively and to target capital investment in order to get the economy growing.

The Assembly has been completely reactive when it needs to be proactive.

Only capital investment can deliver the necessary economic stimulus and a swift boost to economic growth.

“The Austerity measures being pursued by Westminster and delivered by the Assembly are destroying jobs and household budgets. People have had enough. Working families are crying out for action and we simply cannot continue with a situation where economic recovery is being held back.”

“Instead of being dependent on a Westminster Chancellor to make these choices, decisions on the North’s economy should be made by the Assembly Executive who should be acting to deliver a better future by working towards growth of our economy.”
